By Train

Leicester lies on the London (St. Pancras)-Sheffield, the Birmingham-Nuneaton-Peterborough-Norwich and Stansted, and the Coventry-Nottingham-Lincoln lines.

Approximate journey-times and frequencies of trains are:

  • From London 75 minutes/twice an hour
  • From Sheffield 75 minutes/every 1 1/4 hours
  • From Birmingham 60minutes/hourly
Leicester Station lies on the University side of the City centre. Trent Institute may be reached on foot in 5 minutes, by crossing London Road and taking the footpath to the left of the County Court buildings and the converted Church till you reach New Walk. Turn right on New Walk and cross the park to the right of the museum to reach Princess Road West. Turn right into Princess Road West and Trent Institute is situated 100m down the street on the right.

By Car


FROM M1 (SOUTH) JUNCTION 21/M69 (NORTH END):
Follow A563 OUTER RING LEICESTER SOUTH/EAST for four miles to lights at junction with A50 NORTHAMPTON road.
Turn LEFT, signposted A5199 CITY CENTRE, and follow the Welford Road for 1.4 miles to junction with University Road.
In detail note following sequence along Welford Road: two sets of lights; dual-carriageway, with shops and filling stations; traffic lights, followed by playing fields on right.
Then turn RIGHT at next lights into University Road.
Follow the road past the main campus site to the second set of traffic lights where you turn LEFT on to Regents Road.
Follow the road over the duel carriage way and then take the second road on the RIGHT Crescent Road.
At the end of that road the building that houses Trent Institute is to the left in front of you.


FROM M1 (NORTH) JUNCTION 22/A50 BURTON:
Inward-bound: at busy times drivers are strongly advised to follow the M1 Junction 21 (see above).
Otherwise, follow A50 LEICESTER signs along dual-carriageway towards city centre.
Near centre A50 signs now indicate NORTHAMPTON. Follow A50 NORTHAMPTON signs through one-way system.
When A50 becomes a two-way road again, follow it uphill across railway and past cemetery on left.
Turn LEFT at next lights into University Road.
Follow the road past the main campus site to the second set of traffic lights where you turn LEFT on to Regents Road.
Follow the road over the duel carriage way and then take the second road on the RIGHT Crescent Road.
At the end of that road the building that houses Trent Institute is to the left in front of you.

From the City Centre to the University On Foot:
From Market Street the University may be reached in 20-25 minutes: walk down King Street and turn left along New Walk, a pleasant Georgian pedestrian way. Princess Road West is just behind the Museum and Art Gallery.
