The National Portfolio of Research Capacity Infrastructure contracts is managed by the NCCRCD as part of the National Research Capacity Development Programme.

| Academic activity can be procided by a facility which provides a high quality environment with a coherent programme of R&D and provides high-level academic support to health research by |
- Initiating, developing and maintaining collaborative research with other academic and health care organisations
- Providing a resource for expert advice on a variety of academic subjects relevant to health research
- Acting as a centre for the education and training of health researchers
Such units are contracted from a high quality academic department of a Higher Education Institution.
