Resources > Resource Packs > Ethical Considerations in Research

Before you can embark on carrying out health services research with patients, you are likely to require ethical approval. In the UK ethical standards are enforce by a national framework of Local Research Ethics Committees in combination with a set of regional Multi-centre Research Ethics Committees.

This resource pack looks at why ethical approval is needed and examines ethical principles and rules. It guides the researcher through applying ethical principles to research, the process required to obtain informed consent and how to make an application for ethical approval.

This resource packs suggests further reading and resources as well as supplying a glossary of terms.
