Information > Yorkshire and Humber Research and Innovation Alliance for Health (RIAH)

The launch of the Yorkshire and Humber Research and Innovation Alliance for Health (RIAH) was held on the 22nd May at the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield.  This was a stakeholder conference hosted by Yorkshire and The Humber Strategic Health Authority and the Regional Development Agency - Yorkshire Forward, supported by Trent RDSU.

The purpose of the initiative is to contribute to the health, economic prosperity and sustainable development of the Yorkshire and Humber region by increasing the volume and quality of research development and innovation in health and social care.  This will be achieved firstly, by the development of a regional research and innovation strategy for health, by promoting Yorkshire and Humber as a centre of excellence for activity and by delivering, through the Alliance workstreams, improvements in how we work together, for example how we collaborate in research and innovation between public sector organisations and industry.

The aims of the launch event were to:

  • present an overview of national policies in research and innovation and the opportunites they create
  • launch the Alliance by involving stakeholders in organisations throughout Yorkshire and Humber
  • shape and inform the Steering Group and workstreams of RIAH, and identify people and organisations to contribute to the work of the Alliance
  • promote the networking of members of the NHS, Universities and local industry in Yorkshire and Humber, to facilitate research and innovation in health.
