Primary and Social Care

Trent RDSU has a primary and health related social care arm to the organisation. The former Trent Focus staff, whose expertise in this area has gained national recognition, primarily carries out this area of work.

The impact of organisation changes within primary care is still causing difficulties for PCTs. Support and guidance has been provided to enable PCTs to meet their obligations under the Research Governance Framework, including support for the development of Research Management and Governance (RM&G) partnerships.

Support Initiative
  • Email network: to alert PCT R&D leads and contacts to national and local R&D policy, guidance and developments.
  • Information leaflet: Supporting Research and Development in Primary Care Trusts
  • Summary documents: Introduction to Research Governance Framework, Research Governance Partnership models – sharing local developments

Primary and health related social care advice and support as well as training is tailored for through the RDSU clinic and courses infrastructure. It is possible to request to see a Primary Care specialised member of staff at the clinic sessions – follow the staff hyperlinks through to their pen portraits to see where their interests and specialisms lie.

Trent RDSU carries out work with Social Services Departments and has built a network of social care personal interested in research. It also chairs the group SCARE (Social Care Access to Research Evidence) which is a collaborative enterprise including representatives from SSDs, academic departments of social policy and social work, and knowledge management representatives from health and social care organisations. It covers the whole of the Trent region and aims to:

  • Develop access to research evidence
  • Develop current resources to meet social care needs
  • Identify early first steps for assimilation of research evidence
  • Identify resource implications to meet the SCARE objectives in order to develop strategies to meet these.
