The following are websites for members of the public who would like to be involved in health and health related research.

 

The Cochrane Consumer Network

Comprises of consumers who are committed to the philosophies of The Cochrane Collaboration and the importance of consumer participation in informed healthcare decision-making processes.

 

Folk.us

 Is a Department of Health funded initiative, which was established to facilitate and promote meaningful and effective service user, patient and carer involvement in all types of research relating to health and social care in North and East Devon.  Folk.us works with both national and local organisations including INVOLVE.

 

Service User Research Group England (SURGE)

SURGE is the service user arm of the UK Mental Health Research Network (MHRN) and is a national network set up to support mental health service users and people from universities and NHS Trust, as they work together on mental health research.

 

NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme

Produces independant research about the effectiveness of different health care treatments and tests for those who use, manage and provide care in the NHS.  HTA research must address the questions that are important to those who use NHS services and to ensure that it does this, the HTA programme actively involves service users throughout the research process.

Developed by INVOLVE and UK Clinical Research Collaboration to help members of the public make contact with organisations that want to actively involve them in clinical research.

 

Patient and Public Involvement Specialist Library

A comprehensive collection of current knowledge and evidence about patient and public involvement in healthcare is now available in the patient and public involvement specialist library run by the King's Fund for the National Library for Health.
